Christof Kohlhofer

Christof Kohlhofer (Born 1942) is known for Painting.

The Pop art artist Christof Kohlhöfer was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1942.  He started his artistic training at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under K. O. Goetz and Joseph Beuys.  In 1967 he met Sigmar Polke and photographed his graphic art series ‘…Höhere Wesen befehlen’.  Two years later his movie ‘Der ganze Körper fühlt sich leicht und möchte fliegen‘ was created in collaboration with Polke.

Kohlhöfer finished his studies as a master student in 1971.  Since the 1970s the painter, photographer and video artist has been active in the vibrant art scene in Düsseldorf.  In 1974 he was awarded the Heinrich-Heine-Förderpreis of the city of Düsseldorf, together with Lothar Baumgarten.  His works were exhibited at the documenta 5 (1972) and 6 (1977).  In 1999 he accepted the position as visiting professor at the University of California.  Christof Kohlhöfer lives and works in Los Angeles.
